MKE Beer Society – Wet Hop Beers

Fall is hop-picking season, and what better way to use those hops than to take them straight off the vine and put them in beer! Because all hops (in the northern hemisphere) are harvested in fall, they typically must be dried out, vacuum sealed, and cold-stored in order to preserve them for use for months and even years to come; this has an impact on their flavor. However, every year during the hop harvest season, brewers around the country and beyond take the opportunity to use fresh hops in their beers. The term “wet hop” means the hops have not been dried out, but rather thrown straight into the beer, usually the same day they were picked. On November 11, we will try some of these wet-hopped creations for ourselves!
